Issues monitoring site that uses ADFS authentication

$

One of our websites was just moved to ADFS authentication and I am trying to update our WPM transaction for it and having some issues.  I hit the URL and WPM prompts me for the Account and Password for the account and I enter it.  Instead of redirecting to the application's page as it should (I tested this in a standalone IE window on this WPM agent server) it throws up a generic IE "This program cannot display the webpage".  Has anyone seen anything similar to this and how to get it to accept the credentials and redirect/login as it should?

Some more information.....

I dug a little bit more and noticed that WPM is not recording the first URL that I enter.  It seems to be skipping the first URL and only capturing the first redirect and therefore skipping the page that prompts for the user name and password so when I play it back it fails.  Is there anyway to force a URL into a step ahead of the redirect that it captures?

Bulk export/import WPM recordings?

Is there any way to do this? We are breaking out WPM instance into a separate Orion instance because we are looking at deploying a very large amount of WPM transactions over the next few months. Currently we have about 80 - 100 transactions that we need to migrate from the old WPM instance to the new one but it looks like the export button only works with a single recording. I have been looking at the database and there are a couple of tables involved for WPM so I might be able to script out a SQL export and import but if there is a cleaner way to do this I'd prefer to not reinvent the wheel.

Any ideas on this.

Thanks

WPM not playing transactions

I'm evaluating SAM and WPM and I haven't been able to get WPM to work. I'm using the default transaction for google.com and also setup one for a local Intranet site. Neither of them have successfully generated any data/results. When I set them up in the Player and hit play to test them they worked just fine. If I check in the web console I see the following:

WPMErrors.PNG

If I drill down into the Google Transaction I see the following:

WPMnotplayed.PNG

Running this on Windows Server 2012 R2, evaluation versions of SAM and WPM using the all-in-one install (SQL Express):

Web Performance Monitor 2.2.0 Build #2.2.0.297

SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor v6.2 Build #6.2.0.1080

The SolarWinds Job Engine and Data Processor eat up a lot of CPU and make everything noticeably slower in the web console after installing WPM.

In the AgentService.log file I see the following:

2015-05-29 08:38:32,468 [PlaybackDispatcher] ERROR SolarWinds.SEUM.Agent.WorkerProcessManagement.WorkerProcessManager - Unable to create worker process. Trying again.

   at SolarWinds.SEUM.Agent.WorkerProcessManagement.WorkerProcessLauncher.LaunchWorkerProcessInCurrentSession()

   at SolarWinds.SEUM.Agent.WorkerProcessManagement.WorkerProcessLauncher.LaunchWorkerProcessInternal()

Not sure why it's throwing a logon error. Any suggestions on what I can do to get this working? I already tried uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling WPM and that didn't make any difference. If there's another log that would be helpful, please let me know, I really don't know much about SolarWinds products. Thanks.

Hi everyone,

I'm sure it's just me making a mistake, but I can't configure an alert for a Web Transcation (based on a recording using the Web Transaction Recorder) to show which step in the recording is failing and hoping someone can point out what I'm doing wrong:

Using WPM Player Outside the Firewall

$

We need to set-up a WPM player that will reside outside of our firewalls so that we can simulate customer traffic and detect any issues with access to our applications through the firewall.  Has anyone set-up the WPM server inside the firewall (i.e. intranet) with a player outside the firewall (internet or extranet and probably using a proxy server)?  What issues were encountered?  From the documentation I see traffice on these ports need to be passed:  17777, 17781, and 17782.

Thanks everyone.

WPM & Proxy settings - Help!

$

Hello,

I've a WPM monitor set up on an internal server in order to check that Internet access is available from our internal systems.

I seem to encounter the following issue whereby when I log into the server in question, using one of the accounts I've created for SEUM, that when recording the transaction, everything appears fine, the webpages load & all looks rosy...

As soon as I refer this to WPM though, I get the following

"The computer where this player is located uses an active proxy server; however, the recording being played back from it does not contain the required authentication. This may be the cause of the failed playback. To correct this, verify that this website is accessible from this player’s computer without proxy authentication, or, recreate the transaction with the correct authentication."

I've used websites (ServiceNow) that are exclusively allowed through our proxy, I've tried this with having the proxy URL set within the transaction & without - either way, this still results in the above message.

I've also tried using Google / Amazon & again, having the proxy set or not within the transaction, still no luck.

What I'm struggling to understand is why, when logged in as a user that SEUM uses, it works? What is happening differently once I let WPM take over?

I'm sure I've missed some setting or other, however, on all the other servers I use this on (for varying other checks) I see no issues..

Relatively 'new' to WPM & if I can provide more info, please let me know.

Thanks,

Daniel

WPM is alerting false positives

$

Hi, We are using WPM 2.2.1 version and as per the recommendation by SW , we have limited the number of URL's per player under 50. But here comes the issue, post the addition we started getting false positives. Have tried many ways in clearing the issue but it was not resolved.

Currently, the playback interval is 10 min for some and 60 min for some. Warning & Critical thresholds are 61 & 50.

Is there any check list to be made in finalizing all required stuff should be installed on a recorder or a player before we recording the transaction ?

Also, when the transaction is recorded it is playing very well but after assigning the player we start getting false alerting. So as a remediation step, we have added that recording to all the player location to find the right one but all are emiting false alert. Could someone please suggest on how to resolve it ?

A couple of days back we are asked to install Hotfix 2 for WPM 2.2.1 as they have  seen some JavaScript issues. But even this did not resolved the issue.

Thanks,

Pavan.

Transaction Contains Parts That Require RDP

$

Hello,

We are looking to create a monitor on a page that is producing this error when running the playback following start or monitoring. Creating the recording works out fine, however. It's the start of the monitor that hits the wall.

Here is the error dialog:

"Not played - This transaction contains parts that require RDP connection on player machine but RDP connection could not be established. Connect to payer machine and verify that RDP connections are enabled and that first user account for WPM player (usually SEUM-User-1) can connect to RDP."

Referring to the 'player machine', should this be the server hosting WPM or the machine where the client recorder is installed and running from? Secondly, the reference to RDP connections enabled - does that need to be set that the SEUM-User-1 added on the WPM server itself to RDP via user account?

Thanks for any insight.

WPM percent of optimal values -- Player Payload

$

We  have a number of WPM transactions that display values in the Top 10 Transactions by Duration and the Top 10 Steps by Duration that are over 100 percent and as high as 530 percent. Is it possible for me to have an explanation of what these values mean as it relates to administration of this tool. The WPM / Orion documentation does not offer as much information as I would like although it is helpful. Is there an association with the player load percentage which is very high. Note these values do go down over time between transaction execution. I have a block of windows servers that have players for url's only and another block for transactions only. (a typical transaction may be 5 to 10 steps) What are other users experiences with how much to load on payer agents? Your feed back would be much appreciated.

Long web transaction times compared to player

$

We are having issues with our web transactions in that some sites are taking a long time to load. For instance a simple transaction that just visits Facebook.com and looks for a string is taking almost 30 seconds through WPM. However if we go to the server running the transaction and browse to Facebook using IE it loads in a second or two. Also if we take the same recording file and play it back on the same server we get finish times of under 3 seconds.

Looking at the log for the transactions this is the only error I see on the playback server. The cache directory referenced below does not exist.

How do I view past TCP Waterfall Charts?

Hi all,

I'm very new to WPM.  Installed, configured, and set up a couple simple recordings.  I can see the TCP Waterfall Chart in the "step details" per recording, but it appears that is just the most recent transaction/recording.  Where do I go, or how do I view the historical Waterfall transactions?

I am currently running NPM 11.5.2, and WPM 2.2.1

Thanks!

Install WPM on existing Orion server or build up new VM?

$

I've been tasked to get WPM up and running and in reviewing the Admin Guide, I'm a bit confused.  I'm not sure if i should install WPM on my existing Orion core server or buildup a new VM just for WPM.  I have an existing SQL server that is running the SAM/NPM/NTA database - I believe I can just add the WPM dB to that server.

What is the best practice for WPM?

I noticed this always happens at the same time as a windows event:

WPM was running on a server all kinds of other software,

So I installed WPM on a fresh computer running only windows 7,

but we are still getting the same problem.

Anyone seen this before / know how to fix it?

I have website that require authentication to access it. While monitoring through WPM the playback show the website down since it cannot get past this authentication. I have tried to use domain account using domain configuration tool but it is giving me error as in my other post here   WPM Domain Account Configuration Tool .... I did not find any solutions for this. So i want to know if it is possible to get this done with cookie based authentication. If it is possible how can i achieve this in solarwinds. I really need to get this up and running to monitor the website. Any help would be appreciated.

Using WPM with Silverlight - many, many steps

$

0

We use WPM for a few basic HTML monitors with great success, but I recently got a request to monitor a new flagship application as we bring it into full production.

It's a Silverlight site, and I'm running into some problems when attempting to record a transaction.

The site requires username and password to be input at login for access, and obviously X/Y capture inserts many steps as I type my credentials.

Beyond basic response stats on a non-authenticated page, has anyone been able to craft meaningful transaction recordings of Silverlight-based sites that require authentication?

Thanks for any information.
