WPM Player works for Intranet Sites but not for Internet Sites

$

Hello:

I have set up WPM transaction monitors for one of our internal corporate web sites and for google.com.  Both these transaction monitors work on some of my WPM players, but on a couple of them the google.com monitor fails without executing. The WPM Player workstations are all running IE9 and configured to use a PAC file by policy.  The workstations with working google.com monitors and failing google.com monitors are running the same PAC file.

Here is what I see in the AgentWorker log on a WPM Player workstation with the failed google.com monitor:

Who unmanaged it?

We had a transaction turned off and some alerts were missed due to this.

I can't seem to figure out how to see which user account unmanaged the transaction.

I see in the audit log where it was unmanaged, but this doesn't show the userID.

Is this information available somehwere?

Tooltips for a Custom HTML Resource

Has anyone implemented tooltips to assist users with your content that you are displaying in your custom html resource?

It would be nice if this can be done on the title bar of the resource window.

What I have done is added the following code to display an icon that can be hovered over with a mouse to display information about what this chart is for.

Code:

<info title="This chart displays # of blah ........blah."><img src=http://webserver/Images/info_.png>

Questions:

- Anyone have a better idea?

- Can this be done on the title bar of this window?

WPM not playing transactions

I'm evaluating SAM and WPM and I haven't been able to get WPM to work. I'm using the default transaction for google.com and also setup one for a local Intranet site. Neither of them have successfully generated any data/results. When I set them up in the Player and hit play to test them they worked just fine. If I check in the web console I see the following:

WPMErrors.PNG

If I drill down into the Google Transaction I see the following:

WPMnotplayed.PNG

Running this on Windows Server 2012 R2, evaluation versions of SAM and WPM using the all-in-one install (SQL Express):

Web Performance Monitor 2.2.0 Build #2.2.0.297

SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor v6.2 Build #6.2.0.1080

The SolarWinds Job Engine and Data Processor eat up a lot of CPU and make everything noticeably slower in the web console after installing WPM.

In the AgentService.log file I see the following:

2015-05-29 08:38:32,468 [PlaybackDispatcher] ERROR SolarWinds.SEUM.Agent.WorkerProcessManagement.WorkerProcessManager - Unable to create worker process. Trying again.

Not sure why it's throwing a logon error. Any suggestions on what I can do to get this working? I already tried uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling WPM and that didn't make any difference. If there's another log that would be helpful, please let me know, I really don't know much about SolarWinds products. Thanks.

WPM Transactions not successfully playing when monitored

A transaction was recorded on the WPM server and successfully run in the recorder.

However, when the Recording was enabled in the transaction monitor, it appears that it cannot successfully run through the recording.

I was able to pull the logs and the following keep repeating.

Would any of you know if what would be the root cause of this?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

Whenever I open the Manage Transaction of WPM it always prompt this error "A query to the SolarWinds Information Failed" and won't able to show all the transactions.

Is there anyone here also encountering my issue? How do you resolve this issue? Is there any hotfix for this?

Already restarted all Orion services but still to no avail.

Thank you.

Inconsistent coordinate behavior

Here's our situation - any guidance is greatly appreciated.

When using the recorder, the test is simply to:

1. Log in

2. Navigate a javascript menu tree

3. navigate on and do some mundane validations.

The problem is on the navigating the javascript menu tree (#2).  The recording works (mostly), sometimes the recorder playback fails and the mouse is clearly off target - I'm guessing because the window dimensions are changed and items move around on the page.

We didn't create the application we're trying to monitor and are trying to not modify the application for monitoring purposes.

I have to use the javascript menu because there is no direct URL option (it has dynamic params put in by the javascript tree, such as sessionid).

Most of the issues would be unnecessary if it would playback consistent with the recording.  Do y'all have any suggestions on how to get consistent behavior between the recorder and the playback?

Thanks!

WPM playback issues

Hi Guys,

I need to monitor a number of external websites, so i used WPM to do this to get back statistical data etc... I can successfully record the transaction in the WPM recorder and add it into the Orion web console. Baselines have been rounded off to the nearest 10 decimal place.
Once the first initial poll takes place after a few minutes, i get an error message reading

- step ( website name ) failed : Resource not found.

When i look at the screenshots in the steps on the Orion console it comes up with a

- This program cannot display the webpage -

I have checked this with other web sites such as Google, BBC etc and they all come back with the same error. I have successfully opened the external websites on all versions such an IE, Mozilla, Chrome and safari. Opened them both on the server as well.

Whats confusing is i already have 2 websites that are being polled every 2 minutes up and running flawlessly, yet when i try to add additional recordings to be monitored, i keep getting the same error message.

Please forgive my ignorance if i might be doing something really silly or wrong, i am new to this so please be patient with me, i will answer to any questions you have to replies to the best of my ability.

Please advise.

Thanks in advanced

WPM No users created?

Running WPM 2.0.1 on a non-domain Amazon box.

Is there a way to force the creation of the "SEUM-User-1" etc. users?

We're having an issue with one of our amazon players; services won't start (similar to the issue described in WPM - No transactions will run - Brand new install Services won't start because the 7 SEUM-User-# accounts are missing.

Repair and Uninstall/Reinstall the Player application didn't restore the user accounts and the service still doesn't start.

Is there a log file from the installer that can show if it tried to create the users and failed for whatever reason?  Alternatively, can these accounts be created manually?

SEUM-User-# using up disk space

$

I've got three players spun up on Amazon with modest but sufficient resources to do the job.  So far I've got 6 monitors assigned to each player.  I've noticed that the seum-user-# subdirectories grow larger than the cache settings allow in the browser settings which suggests the cause is not temporary IE files.  More than once they've consumed nearly the entire disk space.  The culprit folder appears to be C:\users\seum-user-#\appdata\local\microsoft\windows but the contents of that folder do not add up to what the file browser says should be in there [with the hidden file attribute set to display].  The first couple of seum-users seem to be the bigger disk-hogs.

It's a relatively vanilla set up.  Amazon provides Win08R2 plain Jane instances, I've added only the Player executable.

I've read other threads where it was suggested to stop the player service and delete the accounts or delete the temporary files folder [which doesn't appear to be the problem folder].  The better solution is to not have these user account folders over-grow their banks at all.  I'm not the OS maven I hoped to be and looking for advice/clues/commiseration.

How to add a META tag to affect a custom HTML resource

$

I have a case open with Microsoft SSRS (Sql Reporting Server). There is a display issue with Microsoft SQL (SSRS) reports, using IE as a browser, and embedding them within iframes. This issue exists whether I am using SolarWinds or not. I am embedding the report within a Custom HTML resource.

Microsoft has a fix, and that fix is to embed a Meta tag at the top level of the header. Microsoft said if I can figure out how to do this, it will address my issue. If I embed the tag in the "Edit" window and place it alongside the iframe... Microsoft said this is at too low of a level. See picture below. They want to know how to embed this at a higher level in the .asp code.

The Meta tag is in the attached file (I think if i type it, it prevents incident from being created)

See picture below. I am not sure of the consequences to my other dashboards. From what I understand, this is telling the IE browser to use a "Quirk mode." From what they told me, this will not affect other browsers such as Chrome and Firefox.

Screen shot of how to do this in the Microsoft Internet Explorer debugger.

stuck with pending requests

I've been experimenting in DEV myself for a bit this morning but thought asking might be faster.

What setting can I tweak in the config to limit the # of retries the player permits for these situations?

I have a bad node that is known to be bad and when solarwinds tries running a test on it, it seems to be repeating a particular step for 3 minutes before giving up.

This of course increases the player load quite a bit.

I could unmanage the test, but that doesn't help if I'm not here to do that when the node goes bad.

None of my tests in total should take 3 minutes to run, I'd like to be able to at least limit a individual step to say 90 seconds for example.  Or better, limit the number of retries on a particular step.

Is there a config setting for that?

WPM & Proxy settings - Help!

$

Hello,

I've a WPM monitor set up on an internal server in order to check that Internet access is available from our internal systems.

I seem to encounter the following issue whereby when I log into the server in question, using one of the accounts I've created for SEUM, that when recording the transaction, everything appears fine, the webpages load & all looks rosy...

As soon as I refer this to WPM though, I get the following

"The computer where this player is located uses an active proxy server; however, the recording being played back from it does not contain the required authentication. This may be the cause of the failed playback. To correct this, verify that this website is accessible from this player’s computer without proxy authentication, or, recreate the transaction with the correct authentication."

I've used websites (ServiceNow) that are exclusively allowed through our proxy, I've tried this with having the proxy URL set within the transaction & without - either way, this still results in the above message.

I've also tried using Google / Amazon & again, having the proxy set or not within the transaction, still no luck.

What I'm struggling to understand is why, when logged in as a user that SEUM uses, it works? What is happening differently once I let WPM take over?

I'm sure I've missed some setting or other, however, on all the other servers I use this on (for varying other checks) I see no issues..

Relatively 'new' to WPM & if I can provide more info, please let me know.

Thanks,

Daniel

I'm sure it's just me making a mistake, but I can't configure an alert for a Web Transcation (based on a recording using the Web Transaction Recorder) to show which step in the recording is failing and hoping someone can point out what I'm doing wrong:

WPM Transactions not successfully playing when monitored

A transaction was recorded on the WPM server and successfully run in the recorder.

However, when the Recording was enabled in the transaction monitor, it appears that it cannot successfully run through the recording.

I was able to pull the logs and the following keep repeating.

2015-07-13 12:32:19,526 [PlaybackDispatcher] INFO  SolarWinds.SEUM.Agent.WorkerProcessManagement.WorkerProcessLauncher - Worker process d5383197-cd06-463f-84ca-e19c8f53b1b1 has pid 5740 and runs as user SEUM-User-1

2015-07-13 12:38:59,414 [WorkerProcessMonitor] ERROR SolarWinds.SEUM.Agent.PlaybackDispatcher - Transaction of recording e8c6be45-355b-4f03-be4e-427be5e0c297 errored. Trying repeated dispatch.

Would any of you know if what would be the root cause of this?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
