We have recently installed WPM 2.0.1 and are new to the product.

The basic transaction for google.co.uk will play in the recorder but will not play from within the player node. Our setup is quite large and we are currently using WPM on a single node which has the player, recorder and server all sat on the same box.  Occasionally the location will become unresponsive - a worry seeing as all of the components are sat on the same server.  the other main problem is that the transaction does not run - it always says that it is not knows.

We do use a proxy to get to the internet, but I have tried lots of different variations on where to put the proxy details

PLEASE HELP - I need to get this working.  we are running NPM 10.4.2 WPM 2.0.1 SAM 5.2 Core 2012.2.2

I'm using WPM to monitor some web transaction performance for while.

Just want to know how set WPM to monitor Internet Trading Web Application only Trading hour? (Mon - Fri @ 9.30-12.30 and 14.00-16.30)

I've been experimenting in DEV myself for a bit this morning but thought asking might be faster.

What setting can I tweak in the config to limit the # of retries the player permits for these situations?

I have a bad node that is known to be bad and when solarwinds tries running a test on it, it seems to be repeating a particular step for 3 minutes before giving up.

This of course increases the player load quite a bit. 

I could unmanage the test, but that doesn't help if I'm not here to do that when the node goes bad.

None of my tests in total should take 3 minutes to run, I'd like to be able to at least limit a individual step to say 90 seconds for example.  Or better, limit the number of retries on a particular step. 

Is there a config setting for that?

Anyone know how to modify the Quarter display in the Report Writer so it includes the year?   Right now, when I generate a report of my WPM availability results for the last 4 quarters,  the "SummaryQuarter" field just says 1-4.  We would prefer it if it included the year also,  for example,  2013-4.

The recording that I created works fine when I run it manually.  But when I run the transaction every 10 minutes, it always fail with "element text field not found".. On my other recording, intermittently the

errors are "element div not found",  "element button not found" or 'element link not found".   Is there anything that I need to add on the recording to make these run properly? Thanks

I searched this forum and the WPM Admin guide and found no definitive answer to this question: when a Player PC reports a transaction monitor an "unknown" status what exactly does that mean?  I've come up with a few possible explanations and I'm trying to distinguish between:

-The Player cannot reach the monitored site or doesn't see it as 'down'

-The Player cannot determine a monitored Step is at fault status

-The WPM module cannot communicate with the Player or vice versa

-The monitored site isn't responding and not generating warning or critical latency status

I'd like to give my app folks a solid answer, can someone explain?  What does the alert status variable mean when it returns "unknown"?

Hi all,

Been using WPM for a while now & I have agents in place in 4 core areas across our estate, so far so good... overall very happy with the functionality this offers & our web guys are immensely impressed with the HTTP waterfall statistics this offers (amongst other things).

One issue I've come across & interestingly this only occurs in one of the locations where I have the WPM agent, is the creation of multiple Temp folders, this is causing issues whereby these end up consuming disk space - I've cleared ~19GB this morning which is not ideal.. see below screenie for an idea of what I mean.

I suppose my question is why, on this location only, do I see this issue? To my knowledge I've not set this agent up in any different way to the others & it's not doing more in terms of what it's monitoring?

I've reviewed the ideas/suggestions in SEUM-User-# using up disk space but ideally I'd like to both understand this behaviour & amend whatever may need amending to prevent it. Of course, scripts could be created to clear down files & so on (which is what we may end up doing) but even so... how come this is happening?

So, answers/suggestions/thoughts on a postcard (or reply to this thread) please

Hi all,

I've just upgraded some aspects of our Orion suite, WPM being one of them.. The issue I now seem to be facing is that on one of the locations the player is installed seems to have lost the domain accounts that it had associated to it & unfortunately this location uses a proxy to access the internet ...

When I use the Domain account tool to 'set up' the accounts, I'm presented with the below which while showing me I can validate the domain (great) I don't have any option to validate any accounts (usually there would be several text boxes below for username & password).

The only thing that has changed has been the upgrade & this was working without issue prior. I can only think that the upgrade of the player/recorder on that location has somehow either overwritten/corrupted a certain config file (or something) which relates to the Domain account aspect, I'd just like to know how to fix this preferably without a "just re-install the player/recorder' on that location type answer.

So, will leave this here for the time being & shall raise a support ticket if needed.

I've a WPM monitor set up on an internal server in order to check that Internet access is available from our internal systems.

I seem to encounter the following issue whereby when I log into the server in question, using one of the accounts I've created for SEUM, that when recording the transaction, everything appears fine, the webpages load & all looks rosy...

As soon as I refer this to WPM though, I get the following

"The computer where this player is located uses an active proxy server; however, the recording being played back from it does not contain the required authentication. This may be the cause of the failed playback. To correct this, verify that this website is accessible from this player’s computer without proxy authentication, or, recreate the transaction with the correct authentication."

I've used websites (ServiceNow) that are exclusively allowed through our proxy, I've tried this with having the proxy URL set within the transaction & without - either way, this still results in the above message.

I've also tried using Google / Amazon & again, having the proxy set or not within the transaction, still no luck.

What I'm struggling to understand is why, when logged in as a user that SEUM uses, it works? What is happening differently once I let WPM take over?

I'm sure I've missed some setting or other, however, on all the other servers I use this on (for varying other checks) I see no issues..

Relatively 'new' to WPM & if I can provide more info, please let me know.

I'm evaluating SAM and WPM and I haven't been able to get WPM to work. I'm using the default transaction for google.com and also setup one for a local Intranet site. Neither of them have successfully generated any data/results. When I set them up in the Player and hit play to test them they worked just fine. If I check in the web console I see the following:

Running this on Windows Server 2012 R2, evaluation versions of SAM and WPM using the all-in-one install (SQL Express):

Web Performance Monitor 2.2.0 Build #2.2.0.297

SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor v6.2 Build #6.2.0.1080

The SolarWinds Job Engine and Data Processor eat up a lot of CPU and make everything noticeably slower in the web console after installing WPM.

In the AgentService.log file I see the following:

A transaction was recorded on the WPM server and successfully run in the recorder.

However, when the Recording was enabled in the transaction monitor, it appears that it cannot successfully run through the recording.

I was able to pull the logs and the following keep repeating.

Am sure I've missed something obvious, but can't figure out what...

I've created a new monitor from the Server where it will run from, when running playback within the player (on the same location) this works fine & returns the expected results - great so far...

When I set this up to run autonomously however, it fails with a pretty standard 'Page cannot be displayed' message - very odd.

I've checked the SEUM accounts & these are all in place, in the appropriate groups (Solarwinds-SEUM-Users & have also added them to the Administrators group) this doesn't seem to have had an effect.

So, I thought I'd check IE settings, these all look to be fine also, so I've (currently) ruled that out for now...

It's odd, as I understand this to work quite simply with the local agent running the transaction & reporting in, I believe that something is preventing the local element from successfully completing, but can't seem to determine what this is?

If more detail is needed or I've not explained this well, please let me know, otherwise I really look forward to your assistance & help here fellow Thwackers

Has anyone implemented tooltips to assist users with your content that you are displaying in your custom html resource?

It would be nice if this can be done on the title bar of the resource window.

What I have done is added the following code to display an icon that can be hovered over with a mouse to display information about what this chart is for.

I have been asked to confirm when we started monitoring a particular website as this is impacting on the penetration testing which is being carried out.

Can anybody advise how I can find out the date when the monitor was added?

Or failing that can you point me in the direction of where the files for the transaction monitors are stored as this would give me a clue.

Hi Guys,

I need to monitor a number of external websites, so i used WPM to do this to get back statistical data etc... I can successfully record the transaction in the WPM recorder and add it into the Orion web console. Baselines have been rounded off to the nearest 10 decimal place.
Once the first initial poll takes place after a few minutes, i get an error message reading

- step ( website name ) failed : Resource not found.

When i look at the screenshots in the steps on the Orion console it comes up with a

- This program cannot display the webpage -

I have checked this with other web sites such as Google, BBC etc and they all come back with the same error. I have successfully opened the external websites on all versions such an IE, Mozilla, Chrome and safari. Opened them both on the server as well.

Whats confusing is i already have 2 websites that are being polled every 2 minutes up and running flawlessly, yet when i try to add additional recordings to be monitored, i keep getting the same error message.

Please forgive my ignorance if i might be doing something really silly or wrong, i am new to this so please be patient with me, i will answer to any questions you have to replies to the best of my ability.

Should we expect official IE11 support anytime soon?  IE11 seems to work in most cases, but I have come across a few pages that work fine in IE10 but just hang in IE11 which is preventing us from upgrading. 

With all the recent IE security issues, we'd like to update soon.   Windows Server 2012 R2 comes with IE11, so we can't run R2 either.

Whenever I open the Manage Transaction of WPM it always prompt this error "A query to the SolarWinds Information Failed" and won't able to show all the transactions.

Is there anyone here also encountering my issue? How do you resolve this issue? Is there any hotfix for this?

I'm trying to figure out how to run a BASH script if a WPM transaction monitor is in a down state for 20 minutes.

I am most of the way there.  Built an alert, narrowed it down to the specific transaction monitor, told it to escalate after 20 minutes.  Now I'm having a difficult time figuring out how to actually execute/send the BASH script.  I have read where SolarWinds uses SSH to connect in and pull data from Linux servers via SAM for things like the Real Time Process Explorer.  I'd really like to leverage that ability to run this BASH script, but I can't figure out how.

I know I could use Plink, but I'd rather keep everything native to SolarWinds if possible, especially since it can already do this!

I also tried Script Monitoring, but I'm performing an action based on what happens in WPM.  This is an Adobe CQ5 instance so when the site gets hung, the service is still running, just the site doesn't load.  And, it isn't as easy as restarting Apache, you have to restart the CQ stuff.

Anyone know how to tap into the same voo doo APM uses to connect and send commands over SSH?  I couldn't find anything on it.  Hopefully it is just a result of my sub-par searching skills
