Goal: I would like to set up an alert that lets me know when a transaction step takes twice as long as the standard deviation (standard deviation could be the week, the month, the year-I dont care).

Is this even possible?

I'm not sure where to begin with this as I haven't gotten my hands dirty using custom SQL queries for alerts yet. Thank you for your help.

I have created availability charts for each application that has transactions in WPM.  I then set a schedule for them to run every morning.  The problem is that people are getting duplicate emails for each report (2 emails with the same report).  Has anyone seen this where WPM is sending two emails for each one that is scheduled???

I've a WPM monitor set up on an internal server in order to check that Internet access is available from our internal systems.

I seem to encounter the following issue whereby when I log into the server in question, using one of the accounts I've created for SEUM, that when recording the transaction, everything appears fine, the webpages load & all looks rosy...

As soon as I refer this to WPM though, I get the following

"The computer where this player is located uses an active proxy server; however, the recording being played back from it does not contain the required authentication. This may be the cause of the failed playback. To correct this, verify that this website is accessible from this player’s computer without proxy authentication, or, recreate the transaction with the correct authentication."

I've used websites (ServiceNow) that are exclusively allowed through our proxy, I've tried this with having the proxy URL set within the transaction & without - either way, this still results in the above message.

I've also tried using Google / Amazon & again, having the proxy set or not within the transaction, still no luck.

What I'm struggling to understand is why, when logged in as a user that SEUM uses, it works? What is happening differently once I let WPM take over?

I'm sure I've missed some setting or other, however, on all the other servers I use this on (for varying other checks) I see no issues..

Relatively 'new' to WPM & if I can provide more info, please let me know.

Am sure I've missed something obvious, but can't figure out what...

I've created a new monitor from the Server where it will run from, when running playback within the player (on the same location) this works fine & returns the expected results - great so far...

When I set this up to run autonomously however, it fails with a pretty standard 'Page cannot be displayed' message - very odd.

I've checked the SEUM accounts & these are all in place, in the appropriate groups (Solarwinds-SEUM-Users & have also added them to the Administrators group) this doesn't seem to have had an effect.

So, I thought I'd check IE settings, these all look to be fine also, so I've (currently) ruled that out for now...

It's odd, as I understand this to work quite simply with the local agent running the transaction & reporting in, I believe that something is preventing the local element from successfully completing, but can't seem to determine what this is?

If more detail is needed or I've not explained this well, please let me know, otherwise I really look forward to your assistance & help here fellow Thwackers

I know that there are feature requests to allow for mass changes of WPM transactions (i.e. playback intervals, threshold changes).  Until then I wondered if anybody in the community had a SWQL command or PowerShell script they would be willing to share to alter the settings.  In our infrastructure we are up to 50 locations are should be approaching 100 by years end. This has presented an immense challenge when making any edits to recordings by requiring the laborious processes of manually editing the playback setting of a recording at each location.

If anybody has other strategies on how to handle an infrastructure this size I would love to hear them.

I have been having issues with a replacement transaction recently, whereby the transaction plays perfectly in the recorder, yet when playing through the player it shows as having a password error.

So far, we have recorded the same transaction around four times, each with slight variations on username and log in input, such as clicking over tabbing to the next field, waits between automatic type, etc. but always with the same login credentials. Each time, the transaction plays perfectly on the recorder, yet when loaded on to Solarwinds and played through the same player location as the recorder fails when the password is input.

Strangely, this occurs on other players as well.

Other transactions have been recorded and are working without issues.

Any ideas?

We are upgrading to EOC 2.0 and we are running WPM on a stand alone instance because we have around 2000 synthetic transactions running so we wanted to seperate it out from our other monitoring. Unfortunately WPM only comes with an older version of Orion, is there an upgrade path to bring a stand alone WPM instance up to Orion 2017? We have 5 other Solarwinds instances and they are all a mix of SAM, NPM, NCM, WPM and DPA so getting everything consolidated into EOC would help out a lot.

The old EOC version was not as useful as the new one so we actually stopped using it a couple of years ago but maintained the license so we are hoping to get better usage from v2.0 then we did the old one. This is a hold up to bringing it on line in production.

Any ideas on how to get Orion updated on this instance?

I'm in the process of planning our 2008 R2 to 2012 R2 Solarwinds Migration and was curious what the method was for migrating the WPM Player to a new server.  Is it as easy as installing the WPM player on the new server and then swapping the name and IP over to the new server and it just takes over? Or do I need to make changes in the WPM configuration.

Has anyone used WPM for testing an External API?

Would not get a web page back from response that was initiated.

I am trying to get a clear picture of how WPM works.  The Admin guide doesn't really explain it.  The Data sheet gives one picture and kind of leaves me hanging.  Does this application module require a separate server?  It cannot be installed on the same server as NPM and the other modules?   I also need to add 2 more other machines for the player and recorder?

After digging around in the database, I found that the custom properties for WPM transactions are stored in the SEUM_RecordingCustomProperties table. SWIS/SWQL Studio will query NodesCustomProperties but I haven't been able to figure out how to get/set my custom property values for web transactions. Is this a known/deliberate limitation or am I missing something?

Is anyone else having problems with proxy settings on transactions?

The WPM player is on a standalone Windows 7 32bit (Not on a domain).

Group Policy is also set to "disabled" on "Make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per-user)".

Proxy server is open on port 80 on local address.

Is the player load percentage based on # of CPUs?   So if I have 2 CPUs, then I can safely go up to 200%?

Asking because around 7pm the other night, for some unknown reason at this time, all 4 of my current players doubled in load according to WPM.

All of them are now reporting well over 100% load and none of them even have 25 transactional tests on them yet.

Oddly, this occurred on two different WPM installations, one in PRD and one in DEV.   Yet, the load on all players on each WPM installation doubled at the same time.

The recording that I created works fine when I run it manually.  But when I run the transaction every 10 minutes, it always fail with "element text field not found".. On my other recording, intermittently the

errors are "element div not found",  "element button not found" or 'element link not found".   Is there anything that I need to add on the recording to make these run properly? Thanks

Since our WPM is integrated to npm and other modules, I created an account in SolarWinds web console with limitation in terms of NODEs, workstation locations, and transactions. Now upon testing this created account, from the home tab everything is work fine. But when I clicked the Web Tab, I got an error "Error: A query to the SolarWinds Information Service Failed".

Is there any hotfix for this? or any fixed solutions for this please? Btw, I remember that I also installed the hotfix for the Manage transaction A query to the SolarWinds Information Service Failed in Manage Transaction Monitors and it fixed my issue.

I also noticed, that all accounts with account limitations (no admin rights) and with WPM tab in which are working before are now getting an error upon clicking the WPM tab.

I created the case for this issue, but unfortunately the Engineer is located in SG. And I already informed her about my working schedule which is opposite on her time upon updating her that I uploaded the diagnostic files that I know that she will ask these and to speed up the resolution. But then, I received "Are you working during US time I can see you are replying around 3:00 AM Manila time, let me know so I can transfer your case to them."

Is there any way to do this? We are breaking out WPM instance into a separate Orion instance because we are looking at deploying a very large amount of WPM transactions over the next few months. Currently we have about 80 - 100 transactions that we need to migrate from the old WPM instance to the new one but it looks like the export button only works with a single recording. I have been looking at the database and there are a couple of tables involved for WPM so I might be able to script out a SQL export and import but if there is a cleaner way to do this I'd prefer to not reinvent the wheel.

Any ideas on this.

So starting with I believe the NPM 12.2 series of releases, anytime I run a Config Wizard on the primary poller, any of my WPM playback locations that are polled by an additional poller stop playing back.

Once I go into each Location and Edit, and then choose the primary poller as the polling engine for the playback location, the transactions show back up as green (previously unknown). Then I can set the locations back to the additional poller they were originally assigned to.

Not sure if anyone else has seen this behavior.

I'll use one step in particular called "other" for reference.

This one is 25 seconds for this step (not all shown, just bulk of "gaps") and most attributable to the mysterious gaps...

This one is about 11 seconds and it seems to me the actual "work" parts are reasonable, but the "gaps" are what are changing and causing all of the delays.

so this is the issues that we have for couple of transactions that we have:

• The transaction intermittently failing on the playback - upon seeing the details it appears that the steps stuck on loading the next page, and the next page never show up, hence the playback shown as down - the site itself is not down or having any issues, tested and verified this many times already so I believe that the issue is with the WPM not the sites. This is happening for some of our transactions, with various occurrences, some site like o365 seemingly failed more often than others. The issue happening in totally random occurrences, which makes it very difficult to diagnose. We tried to run the player on different server, even setup one server for testing, but the issue is still there, so I'm convinced that the server is not the issue. The player running on Windows Server 2012 R2.
• Recording working fine, tested the transactions using the recorder many times, but never failed even once.
• I found this old discussion: https://thwack.solarwinds.com/thread/100415 which seems to have the similar issues. I have tried to set maxPlaybacksPerWorker to 1 per that thread but doesn't solve the issue, although it appears that it slightly improves the situation but not solving the issue. I have also tried to do the XY recordings, but that doesn't solve the issues as well.
• I have also taken out Antivirus out of the equation, tested to run on test server with no antivirus and it makes no difference.

I have an open case with support, but wondering if anybody have similar issues? And if so, do you find any solutions?
