Hi guys,
I'm a newbie here on Thwack so will start by saying a big 'Hi!!' to the community here. Love the look and feel of the site here by the way- I'me from a SQL background and was missing the great community there so to find you guys is great =)
My first question if I may, is the following:
I work for a large corporate who are looking to install WPM for one of our contracts in London and I need to come up with a rough plan for what infrastructure requirements will be necessary for implementation there. Reading through the 'WPMAdminGuide' and looking online I can easily get my hands on server/client/network & database required spec's etc. which is great, but I need to drill down a bit further into the requirements and am struggling to find info on what might be required for our environment and need to come up with some rough ideas on the following:
- How many servers are required and of what spec? (hardware spec's I've found in the documentation)
- How many players you think we’d need?
- DB requirements (can the WPM DB share an existing SQL instance or does it need to be dedicated)? N.B. we use a remote SQL server instance
- Will/can this installation share any of the existing NPM and NCM infrastructure? (we have two data centers at this site and it would appear only one Solarwinds server) *Update: I've just seen another thread in Thwack that answers this question I think- that WPM is quite 'light' and has no issues sharing an existing Solarwinds server- does this sound correct, and is there anything I'm missing?
- Rough timescales for installation
- Any areas that would require assistance from Solarwinds pre-sales/professional services
What I know is the the scope of WPM will be to monitor up to 50 different web transactions from up to 4 locations (we are looking at purchasing 200 licenses) – probably running at 5 minute intervals.
We're not yet sure how many different web sites will be involved as I think a lot of the new transactions (that we’re still waiting for full details on) will be testing different functions from a small set of web sites
I know the info provided here is vague- but any info on the bulleted points would be very much appreciated
Many thanks,
Marcus
